Indians Donate Blood To UCH

IBADAN - About 60 Indian nationals living in Ibadan at the weekend donated blood to the University College Hospital (UCH).

The leader of the delegation, Mr. Deepak Gursahaney, urged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of donating blood at government approved hospitals to save the lives of the sick or injured.

Gursahaney said the exercise was aimed at ensuring a reliable blood bank where indigent patients could be assisted with screened blood.

He said that the association had set aside Sept. 21 of every year to mobilise the Indian community for the great task of saving people’s lives.

According to him, the exercise will go a long way in educating members of the public and allay people’s fears about blood donation.

Gursahaney noted that the number of Nigerians donating blood had increased since the association started the exercise some years back.

Others who donated blood were the Managing Director of Kakanfo Inn, Ibadan , Mr Ajay Bawa, a Nigerian medical doctor who is married to an Indian, Dr Abimbola Silva, and a 70-year-old Indian, Mr Hiraram Shamdasani.
