Alao-Akala Presents 2009 Budget To House

IBADAN- Oyo State Government has announced a budget of N120.137 billion and was christened Budget of Consolidation .


Presenting the Appropriation Bill on the floor of the State Assembly ,Governor Alao-Akala said that the bugdet was prepared in such a way as to make paramrount production of goods and services ,especially food production, of paramount organisation .


The governor state that with this, the private sector would be given all the needed impetus to expand their production capabilities .


According to him , the vision was actually to limit the role of government to that of a shower of light to private and corporate organisation


The governor went further to inform the people of the state that the budget would also take care of them as in some areas , the state government would partner with private organisations with a view to generating employment , increased standard of living as well as bringing in more revenue to the government.


This budget , he said , would focus on the reorientation of the Civil Service through appropriate training towards an efficient delivery of services for the generality of the residents of Oyo State.


Alao-Akala then told the parliament that this year’s budget which is over N5billion more than that of last year ,is made up of over N50billion set aside for Recurrent Expenditure, while the Capital Expenditure will gulp over N70billion .


According to him , the break down of the budget had shown that transport and health would take the lion share of it while education and housing are following closely, apart from N12 billion allotted to the General Administration.


He declared that since the Federal Government recently alluded to the fact that the Federal and state governments would do well to grid their loins and be prepared to cut costs , “ I wish to state that it is incumbent on us all to prepared to make necessarry sacrifice in order to weather the looming storm”.


The state chief executive therefore charged that” In specific terms , I urged all citizens , corporate bodies and individuals alike , to show a greater sense of patriotism by discharging their civic obiligations through payment of taxes , fines and levies without any further prompting as we also will work harder to improve our Internally Generated Revenue [IGR].”
Alao-Akala did charged the civil servants in the service of the state government to reciprocate the kindgesture by being dedicated to their duties .


Accepting the Appropriation bill , the Speaker of the state House of Assembly , Hon. Maroof Olawale Atilola assured the governor that the House would accord the bill accelerated deliberation but warned that “ those who would be executing and operating this budget should not slow it down with unnecessary red tapism .
