Landlords Get Ultimatum To Provide Toilet Facility

By RAHEEM IBRAHIM

LAGOS - Landlords of houses without toilet facility and soak away within the jurisdiction of Ibeju- Lekki Local Government Council Area of Lagos have been given a six month ultimatum to correct the anomalies or risk the wrath of the government.

The Executive Chairman of the Council, Prince Bayo Balogun who gave the ultimatum during the swearing-in ceremony of the Secretary to the Local Government Council and Supervisory Councilors at the Council Secretariat during the week, warned that it has now become a punishable offence to build a house in the area without toilet and soak away.

Failure to comply with the directive after the expiration of the ultimatum, the Council boss said environmental officers from his office shall pay adequate visit on the erring landlords for necessary action.

He however, used the occasion to call for assistance from the state government towards the general development of the area, saying “Ibeju-Lekki needs special attention as the challenges are really overwhelming”.

Prince Balogun said the target of his administration is to ensure that the first hundred days in office is marked with landmark achievements, adding that it shall continue to render accounts of stewardship at every 100 day intervals.

The council boss therefore solicited the support of all and sundry towards the prompt payment of taxes and rates, noting that there can never be any development without money.

“There is no way we can perform without money, it is the little taxes and rates that are collected that government depends on in providing the necessary infrastructure.

In this regard the Kabiyesis, Chiefs, Baales and C.D.A members are hereby called upon to help us talk to their people, our people to imbibe the culture of paying their taxes and rates without being forced”.

Noting that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has already set the pace in aggressive and sustainable infrastructural development in the state, Prince Balogun urged the new appointees to brace up for the challenges ahead.

“As you are all being sworn-in today, we shall together ensure that we don’t slow the state down. We shall be a source of inspiration to other local government and not otherwise”, the council boss said.

’The appointees include Mr.Fatai Mojeed, Secretary to the Local Government, Mr.Ganiu Lawal, Mr.Raheem Kazeem, Alhaji Yemi Ajetumobi, Mr. Nicholas Akobada, as Supervisors for Environment, Education, Agriculture and Health respectively, including the Council’s Vice Chairman Kemi Surakat who doubled as Supervisor for Works.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, secretary to the Local government council Fatai Mojeed promised that they will uphold their oath of office and serve the people diligently.
