BENIN CITY - Nigeria’s Reggae artiste, Majek Fashek, popularly known as the rain maker who has been out of the country for the past ten years returned to the state amidst jubilation by his fans who were at the Benin Airport to receive him.
Speaking with newsmen on Monday at the Benin Airport Majek Fashek, whose real name is Majekodunmi Fasheki said his sojourn to United States of America was to take his kind of music which he called “kpagolo” to the international level.
The rain maker” however added that the kpagolo kind of music which is the sound of many culture in Africa had its root from Benin.
He described Benin City as the greatest City of arts in the world saying he was proud as a Benin person.
He said he had not been rewarded financially through the sales of his music because of the mismanagement on the part of the promoter who had handled his project, but commended Mr. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, a United States of America-based Benin man who has since been managing him.
In a brief remark, Mr. Ehiozuwa Agbonyinma of EJ and Associates described the artiste as a musical talent that Nigerians should be proud of, saying he was recently awarded the Star Music Award in America and the first Nigerian to appear on a music programme on a Network Television Station in America.
He said as part of the musical promotion, Majek would tour nine states in the country beginning with Benin City.
