Lagos Warns Teachers Against Illegal Fees

IKEJA-The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Adebisi Sosan, has warned teachers in public schools against illegal collection of levies and fees from the students. Sosan, who oversees the education ministry, gave the warning in a statement on Tuesday in Ikeja, as public schools resume after a six-week vacation.

She said that the government would not be lenient with any teacher or head teacher caught extorting money from the students under any guise. She reminded the teachers that the government had approved fees and levies, including those for uniforms, caps and badges.

She reiterated that the students’ boarding fees still remained N25,000 per term. Sosan, however, warned that the government would not allow the students to wear customised uniforms because such uniforms had been phased out in the public school system. “Public schools should henceforth desist from using customised uniforms but students who do not have uniforms yet should be allowed to attend school for the first six weeks of resumption,” she said.

Sosan advised the students to join clubs which could foster their academic and social advancement in their schools.

She urged principals, teachers and students to keep their school environment always clean and beautiful by planting flowers.
