Govt To Construct Ring Road In Ado-Ekiti


ADO-EKITI-The Ekiti State Government is to construct a ring road in Ado-Ekiti to reduce the perennial traffic hold up in the metropolis. Governor. Segun Oni, who said this in Ado-Ekiti recently told newsmen that work on the project would start in January 2009, but did not state the cost of the construction.


He further said that the government would soon promulgate a legislation against the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the roads in the metropolis. “We cannot deny the fact that this has been a source of worry in recent time to this government. But the situation will be corrected by January next year.”


“The traffic jam being experienced in Ado-Ekiti is as a result of the indiscriminate parking of cars on the roads and the display of wares on the highways. “And the fact that the government is opening up the state to investors has definitely made the population of Ado-Ekiti to soar. So, we are trying to correct the situation by constructing motor parks in the outskirts of the town to correct the situation, “ he said.


The governor said the government would work in conjunction with members of the transport unions on the need to relocate some motor parks outside the state capital. Oni promised to embark on consultations with the market people on how to change the habit of displaying their wares on major roads.


On the high rent for houses in Ado-Ekiti, the governor said that government would soon embark on the construction of low cost houses to provide accommodation for the people.
He said that all abandoned housing estates would be rehabilitated to complement the ones being built by private individuals.


He noted that private estate developers were being wooed to build habitable houses in Ado-Ekiti as part of efforts to reduce accommodation problem in the state.


“We are quite aware of the situation and that is why we are giving housing loans to all categories of workers in the state to help them put up befitting structures.


“We are also taking steps to ensure that the housing situation is put under control,” he said.
