PORT HARCOURT - The Rivers State Government says it is prepared to undertake the construction of a Federal Road to Bonny if the Federal Government guarantees to refund her expenses.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who disclosed this during an interactive meeting with state’s indigenes resident in Abuja, said the assurance from the Federal Government became imperative since similar federal projects carried out by the state had not been refunded.
The Nigerian Observer reports that the Bodo/Bonny road project embarked upon by the federal government has been under construction for more than two decades and is yet to achieve 50 percent completion thereby scuttling the dream of dwellers of the Bonny Island to ride on road to Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State governor who explained his administration’s plans to link all communities in Rivers State by road, regretted that the federal government had not refunded expenses incurred by the state in the past on some federal government projects located in the state.
He cited the N2billion released for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, the construction of about 35km Rumuokoro Airport Road amongst others as instances where the federal government was yet to refund the state.
He hinted that the federal government had not been fair to the state in the execution of its projects, and urged it to guarantee reimbursement to enable the state undertake some key federal projects requiring urgent attention to alleviate the suffering of the people.
