BENIN CITY – Following a national response initiative, Edo State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA) has set up a body tagged: “Behaviour Change Communication” (BCC) Committee, a key component in the reduction of HIV/AIDS among Nigerians.
The composition of the committee according to a press statement by Solomon Imohiosen (Esq), on behalf of the Communication Specialist is made up of Non Governmental Organisations among other groups with technical expertise in the leading campaign on strategies of reduction to stop spread of the disease.
The statement however noted that the focus of the committee will be to create and adopt messages that elicit a positive and better attitude towards sufferers (who should not be stigmatised), a new outlook and attitude which emphasises the practice of safe sex, by persons most at risk such as Female Sex Workers (FSW), Men having sex with men (MSM)), long distance drivers, including youths in and out of school.
Some members of the BCC Committee include Rev. Solomon Ohonba, Community Mobilisation Officer (SACA); Engineer A.O. Agbontaen, Procurement Officer (SACA); Sir J. Uduebor, Secretary (SACA); Mrs. N.O. Igbinoba, Project Manager (SACA); Mr. D.E. Omoregie, Communication Officer (SACA), among others.
