Calabar Former CAF Vice-President, Orok Oyo Orok, who died on Sept. 10, will be buried on Oct. 3, in Calabar, Cross River State , the family has said.
Oyo Orok was also Nigeria’s first member of FIFA executive board and NFA’s longest serving Secretary-General.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that since the death of Oyo Orok, no condolence register has been opened at his 10 Ephraim street home in the Canaan city.
In spite of enquiries about the register by friends and associates of the renowned football administrator, who died at 86, none was opened.
NAN recalls that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) delegation who went to condole with the family three days after his death, expressed disappointment over the absence of the condolence register.
Ita Oyo, the second son of the late “Mr Football” as he was called, said he personally “prepared a register the very day our dad died”.
He said that he did not understand why the register was put away.
Ita, however, stated that he would ensure that one was in place for visitors to condole with the family.
But a family source disclosed that the absence of the register was because of a rift between the late man’s children and his wife.
The source hinted that “if not properly managed more problems will occur in the course of the burial’’.
A burial programme announced by his wife, Mrs Ini-iko Orok Oyo, on Tuesday said “mourning house” would open on Sept. 29 at 7 a.m. at their residence.
Visitations by friends and associates, the programme said, would be on Sept. 30.
The programme by the wife also said that a service of songs would hold on Oct. 2, at the Duke Town Presbyterian Church, Eyamba Street , Calabar, at 6 p.m.
It said on Oct. 3, there would be a funeral service at the main bowl of the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, at 11 a.m, followed by interment at 14 Edgerly Road .
A reception for guests follows after interment at the training pitch of the stadium, it stated.
