Waiting For True Justice In Edo

By LUCAS IYAYI

It is now very clear that the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal misfired and passed its judgement full of errors and that has raised more questions than answers. The judgement was a clear case of miscarriage of justice.

The Edo State Governor, Senator Oserheimen Osunbor was frustrated for months before he could lay his hands on the certified copy of the judgement to enable him file his appeal. Today, the Governor is waiting for the Appeal Court to redress the issue that did not comply with the proper adjudication of a case so that his election be upheld.

Gov Osunbor

Infact, that is the wait for justice for Osunbor. The opposition are already playing to the gallery through their abracadabra propaganda machinery in blaming the Appeal Court for not constituting a panel, describing it as a long wait. The fact is, Osunbor is a patient man and patience pays. Why is the opposition suddenly becoming apprehensive again. Let the judiciary do its work.

The Appeal Court is a noble one and can never be stampeded, compromised or intimidated.
This goes to show the kind of people that the opposition are made of. They are ready to blackmail anybody, even the revered judiciary, which they had often times hailed when the tribunal’s misplaced judgement was pronounced.

The contentious issues are many. What constitutes valid votes? Who told them that the Court will start sitting in December. Why are they not talking about other states? Onyeama Ugochukwu and Theodore Orji case had been there before the Edo case. Why the hue and cry when there is none. Why the use of hired agents and hatchet writers to mislead the reading public. Does any right thinking Nigerian see the Appeal Court as a place for mathematical magicians? Who told the opposition that they have a good case with all the flaws in that judgement. Why should they link the Osunbor Oshiomhole’s case with that of Agagu-Mimiko. Who made them judges.

Osunbor has said it severally that PDP won the gubernational election in Edo State and that is the truth. The PDP had always been in control in Edo State and still remains a PDP stronghold.

For comparing what happened in other Appeal Court division is trying to tell the Edo division that it is slow, when everybody knows that the judges are on their annual vacation. The Court will not release their names now as a source said for reasons best known to the body. And so why the fuss, hurry. Is it because the opposition already know that they have a bad case. That the tribunal gave a sentimental judgement, that was not really legal for reasons best known to them.

The court cases cited by the opposition and dispensed with were done during the legal year. The opposition should know that the President of the Appeal Court, is not a push-over and cannot be cowed. The case must come up and the truth will surface. Was it not the tribunal that first frustrated Osunbor’s appeal through its delay tactics in producing the certified copy of the judgement.

As it had been rightly stated by some legal pundits, the law does not stipulate a time limit within which a panel must be constituted to hear an appeal, in governorship election: why is AC jittery and panicking. Their games are all well known.

Infact, it is Osunbor that should be worried about the delay, because he wants to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy and not to be distracted with litigations.

That is why the long walk to justice will surely favour Osunbor whose mandate was erroneously given by the tribunal to Oshiomhole. And that is why one is surprised that journalists who are supposed to be unbiased umpires have taken sides and only looking at one side of the coin. Even when Oshiomhole is referred to have run under the labour party by some of them. It is Osunbor that should be more worried as he is waiting eagerly for his mandate to be up held by the Appeal Court to enable him to further transform the state. Does the opposition have any programme.

Osunbor is God’s choice for Edo people and so it shall be. Take a look at the roads, water rehabilitation schools’ refurbishment, hospitals taking new shapes. This is not labour activism but grass root development. We are not for agitation in Edo State but for growth which Osunbor has exhibited in the last one year.

The Edo State administration is one of the best well run today in the country and it cannot therefore be crippled. Osunbor is a man of integrity and can never ever allow tricksters and fraudsters have their way. He is doing well and the Appeal Court by the grace of God will rule to his favour.
