IBADAN-A police Inspector and another police personnel attached to one of the old generation banks name withheld in the Oyo State capital on Wednesday were killed by armed robbers during an operation around the State Government House.
Apart from those killed, a private security operatives on duty was also wounded.
Reports say that the gang of armed robbers had alighted from three different SUV cars and entered the bank which was adjacent to the State Government Secretariat around 2.10pm disguising as customers.
Narrating the incident, one of the staff of a private security company told newsmen that though he was not around as at the time the dare-devils came, but when he got to the bank premises , the whole vicinity was found to be in a state of confusion as all the security men had ran into safety as the robbers went into shooting spree immediately they entered the bank main hall .
He said no security man at the gate as the gate was under lock and key with the armed robbers keeping vigil to forestall any resistance.
Speaking on the incidence , the Police Public Relations Officer , ASP Bisi Okuwobi confirmed the robbery operation saying two of their men were killed by the robbers while one was seriously wounded.
She however said that the run-away robbers also lost three of their colleagues during a shoot-out with police at Akanran, headquarters of the Ona Ara Local Government in the state .
Okuwobi told newsmen that robbers managed to take away the corpses of their colleagues in their high –speed vehicles while speeding towards Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State. Meanwhile the Oyo State Police Command has pleaded with its Ogun counterpart to watch out for the run-away robbers.
