Activities marking 48th Independence kicks-off today

 

BENIN CITY-Activities marking Nigeria’s 48th Independence Anniversary will kick off today in Edo State with a Jumat service at the Central Mosque, Igun Street, Benin City at 1.30pm.


According to a statement by the Director of Youth in the state Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs. C.O. Ebuetse-Tuyo, the state governor, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor will be represented by the Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba at the Jumat Service.


This will be followed by an inter-denominational Church service on Sunday September 28, 2008 at St Matthew Anglican Church, Sakponba Road, Benin City at 10.00 am.


The Edo State Governor Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor is expected to take the lesson at the church service.


Youth and children fun-fare has been scheduled to hold at the Government House Grounds on Tuesday September 30 2008 at 2.00pm while on Wednesday October 1, 2008, there will be a rally/march past and Award ceremony at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, beginning from 8.00 am.


Governor Osunbor is expected to take the salute and deliver an address.
According to the statement, schools, market women, social clubs and voluntary organizations have been invited to grace the occasion.
