BENIN CITY- Barely a week after a commercial sex worker was dastardly murdered in a brothel, another tragedy struck Monday night at another brothel in Benin City when a young-man hanged himself, minutes after killing a prostitute he had patronized.
The sad killings which have sent shivers down the spines of many commercial sex workers in the city The NIGERIAN OBSERVER exclusively gathered, has forced brothel operators to close shop.
The recent attack which occurred along the same Murtala Muhammed Way (M.M. Way) in Benin city, it was gathered, happened at about 9pm, barely thirty minutes after the young-man’s entry into the girl’s corner, said to be his usual joint. A loud scream from the girl’s room was heard by other sex workers who responded swiftly and forced the door open, only to discover that their “co-worker” had been killed.
The young man, The NIGERIAN OBSERVER learnt was immediately locked inside the room, ostensibly to prevent him from being linched by people who reportedly stormed the brothel while others went to contact the police.
It was further gathered that the killer young man, possibly apprehensive of what will befall him as a result, allegedly pulled down the ceiling fan in the room and hung himself with the electric wire.
When the police arrived at the scene, the young man was found dangling from the ceiling, a development which was said to have prompted the immediate arrest of the complainants and other commercial sex workers in the brothel.
When The NIGERIAN OBSERVER visited the brothel, Dam Hotel and Night Club, 60, M. M. Way, Benin City, yesterday, it was under lock and key as some girls suspected to be prostitutes were sighted moving around possibly awaiting the director, who it was learnt, went to a mortuary where the two corpses were said to have been deposited.
Although residents of the area refused to comment on the sad incident, a bus driver who claimed to have witnessed the removal of the corpses identified the young man simply as Uche’s brother whose father was a security man at a company close to the brothel.
The police claim to have started investigation into the first murder case which occurred at another brothel along the same M.M. Way. When contacted, the image maker of the State Police Command, ASP Peter Ogboi was said to have accompanied the AIG, Zone 5 to Auchi on a familiarization tour.
However, it will be recalled that a fun seeker had last week butchered a commercial sex worker, identified as Jenifer Ogboiline, 24 in her brothel room at Atlantic Hotel, 208 M.M. Way, Benin City.
