BAUCHI -The Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has arrested two suspected dealers in hard drugs, Mohammed Jibrin and Imrana Shuaibu.
The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, said in Bauchi while addressing newsmen on the agency’s activities that the dealers had substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said men of his command seized substances weighing 70 kilogrammes from the two suspects.
“The suspects were arrested on Monday following a tip-off a day earlier that a Volkswagen bus loaded with cannabis had taken off from Gwagwalada on its way to Bauchi.
“The vehicle later developed mechanical fault and broke down close to Zaranda Hotel in Bauchi and the suspects were apprehended,’’ Momodu said.
He said the 13 bags containing the substances were concealed in such a way that would ensure they were not easily detected.
Momodu said NDLEA’s investigations revealed that the suspects were working with a group and a prominent customer based in the state.
“But we will soon be arresting the unidentified customer,’’ he said.
Speaking to journalists, one of the suspects, simply identified as Jibrin but also known as “Kwaro’’, claimed to be a bricklayer.
He however admitted that the consignment belonged to him, disclosing that he purchased the substances in Lokoja at the cost of N87,100.
“I intend to sell it at the cost N150, 000,’’ the 22-year-old Jibrin had said.
