BENIN CITY – Edo State House of Assembly yesterday in Benin City held a valedictory session in honour of the late former member of the defunct Bendel State House of Assembly, Hon. Dickson Aghariagbonse Okungbowa during which the lawmakers paid glowing tributes to their departed colleague.
Presenting the funeral oration on the deceased, the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. (Mrs) Elizabeth Ativie noted that Hon. Okungbowa was the first Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Frank Okiye, besides sympathizing with the bereaved family, noted that Hon. Okungbowa was a great man.
Hon. Ogbeiwi Ikponmwosa, (Orhionmwon II) said Hon. Okungbowa achieved a lot and left indelible marks in the annals of the state and in politics, adding that the honour done to the departed soul was well-deserved and urged the children to emulate their late father.
In his comments, Hon. Fred Omoigberai (Owan East) noted that the late lawmaker led a good life, had a good team spirit as attested to by the presence of the colleagues of Hon. Okungbowa whose conviviality and relations with others were part of the legacies left behind, hence he tasked the current state legislators to work towards the legacies for which they would be remembered after their exit from the House of Assembly.
After special prayers were offered, the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba later led members of the House to pay their last respects by filing past the casket and taking a bow and they were followed by the bereaved family and colleagues of the deceased.
Hon. Dickson Okungbowa was a member of the defunct Bendel State House of Assembly, representing Orhionmwon Constituency in 1983 and died recently at the age of 74 years.
