BENIN CITY- As part of activities to mark the 60 years of the University of Ibadan (UI), the Executive of University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Benin Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit on the Benin Monarch, his Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa at the palace.
In a speech delivered by the Chairman of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Benin Chapter, Chief (Sir) Francis Adewole Odion informed the Oba that there would be a Diamond Jubilee lecture on: “The Nigeria Condition, a Way Forward,” to be delivered by a nationalist and a foremost Nigerian Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 11a.m. at the Akin Deko Hall, University of Benin and a Luncheon and Award ceremony for some distinguished alumni and eminent Nigerians same day at 3p.m. at the Banquet Hall, University of Benin.
The Chairman of the UIAA however used the occasion to request for a piece of land to enable the association to build a Resource Centre comprising conference rooms, offices, some chalets as well as recreational facilities for members and non members in Benin City.
He added that the luncheon and award ceremony is to raise fund to kick- start the Resource Centre.
Responding, the Benin Monarch congratulated them on the attainment of 60 years and urged the executive members and members of the alumni to keep the institution going.
The Oba then consented to their request for a land to enable the UIAA build a resource centre.
Chief Odion was accompanied to the palace by other executive members who include Rev. (Dr.) A.O. Emwanta, Vice Chairman, Chief (Prof.) Emovon, Barr. K.C. Idemudia, Chief (Mrs.) R. Egborge, Eng. O.I. Abu and Mr. Austin Uwugiaren amongst others.
