BENIN CITY - The Chairman of Erhengbo Security Services Limited, Benin City, Chief Sunny Erhengbo, has said that his organisation will continue to operate within the ambit of existing laws in the state.
Briefing newsmen in Benin City yesterday, Chief Erhengbo debunked reports in a local radio station which alleged that his organisation was still collecting daily revenue from market women in spite of the recent ban by the state government.
The Chief Executive Officer of Erhengbo Security Services Limited, explained that his organisation was duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, adding that he had a contractual agreement with traders in Oliha, Ekiuwa and Edaiken Markets to provide security for their goods and property in the markets.
He further stated that as part of the contract, he only collects monthly payment for the services rendered, and not daily revenue as had been alleged in some quarters.
Chief Erhengbo described the allegation as an attempt by his detractors to damage the reputation of his organisation and bring him into disrepute with the government.
He further explained that as part of measures to protect the markets from fire incidents, especially during the last month of the year, the traders were required to contribute N200 (Two Hundred Naira) each for the refilling of the dozens of fire extinguishers in each of the markets.
Chief Erhengbo appealed to media practitioners to always cross-check their reports before presenting same to the public in order not to mislead the listening public.
