The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu, has advised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) hierarchy to ensure quick adaptation of corps members to their new environment.
He gave the advice in Calabar when he met with the NYSC Co-ordinator in Cross River, Mr. Akinkunmi Martins, recently.
The Efik monarch urged NYSC officials to ensure that corps members were familiar with the norms and traditions of their host communities.
“One good thing for one to do if you get to anywhere is to get to the roots of the people; this will ensure peaceful co-existence.
“The corps members should try as much as possible to be familiar with leaders in their locations.’’
The royal father lauded the comportment of the corps members posted to the state, saying “the state is a peaceful one, it is our nature and we will continue that way so as to make sure you have a wonderful time throughout your stay.’’
He expressed worry over the current security challenges facing the country, appealing to everyone in his or her little way to proffer solutions to the problem so that the country could forge ahead.
Earlier, the NYSC co-ordinator had commended the monarch for his role in making all corps members comfortable in the state.
He also noted the peace and tranquility existing in the state, saying that such were rare attributes.
Martins said that the peace enjoyed in the state by corps members was well appreciated by the scheme.
