2 Charged With Assault

 

Two accused, Ayo Olaniyi, 29 and Gloria Elisha, 26, on Friday appeared before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court, charged with criminal force and assault.


The prosecutor, Insp. Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that on Jan. 24, one Moses Ayi reported the accused who were residents of Galadimawa, Abuja, at Lugbe Police Station.


Elijah said Ayi alleged that Olaniyi, Elisha and one Enoch who is now at large, beat him and threw stones at him, and also tore his shirt and trouser.


He said that during police investigation, the accused were unable to give a satisfactory account of the incident.


The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Sections 263 and 247 of the Penal Code.


The accused pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor asked for a date for hearing in view of their plea.


The Senior Magistrate, Mr Bashir Alkali, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each and one surety each in like sum, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.


He adjourned the case to February 21 for hearing.
