BENIN CITY – In a renewed battle against illegal drug trafficking, police in zone ‘5’ headquarters, Benin City have nabbed two persons with 20 bags containing weeds believed to be Indian hemp.

The suspected drug peddlers, The NIGERIAN OBSERVER gathered, were apprehended at Sabongida-Ora, Edo State by men of the crack squad of the zone who, on receiving a tip-off, intercepted a chartered red J5 bus, with registration number XD 177 BWR where the suspected 20 bags of weeds were uncovered among heads of plantain.

Parading the duo along with the substance and the red J5 bus yesterday at the zone 5 headquarters, GRA Benin City, the zonal police image maker, ASP Ebi Orubiri stated that the suspects, Charles Idika and Abdullahi Dako, were arrested about 7.30 a.m. last week Tuesday while transporting the illegal substance to Abuja, maintaining that the police in zone 5 would not relent in the on-going war against illegal drug trafficking.

While charging other law enforcement agents to remain committed to the fight against drugs, ASP Ebi disclosed that criminals use drugs to perpetrate evil, adding that the suspects and the weeds would be handed over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Edo State Command for prosecution.
