NBA Elects New National Officers

MR Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) was on Thursday elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Akeredolu was elected unopposed at the election of new national officers held during the annual delegates’ conference of the NBA in Abuja.

Earlier, the outgoing President, Mr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) had tasked the incoming administration to “build from what we have left”. “ We have done a lot and there are still a lot on the table, which I hope they will carry through, ” he told newsmen after the election.

Agbakoba, who said he had confidence in the new President, described him as “a man of courage and conviction”.

“He is my very good friend, my classmate and I have known him for almost 30 years, he is even more rigid than I am,’’ he said.

In attendance at the election was the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Michael Aondoakaa.

“The NBA has been very vibrant under the leadership of Agbakoba for the past two years and I am very proud that it is moving to another vibrant person,’’ Andoakaa said.

According to the Minister, the smooth conduct of the election is a demonstration that the Bar can resolve its differences amicably without rancour and bitterness.

Speaking to newsmen, Akeredolu said: “ By the grace of God, I will serve my term and serve it creditably because all my life I have always wanted to be the President of the NBA”.

Giving details of the results, Mr Dele Adeshina (SAN), Chief Returning officer of the NBA’s electoral committee, said three other candidates were also elected unopposed.
They are Mrs. Linda Bala, legal Adviser; Mr Ganiyu Ajape, Welfare Secretary and Mr Gbolohan Gbadamosi, Assistant Publicity Secretary.

The other elected officers are Mr Ikeazor Akariwe, 1st Vice President; Mr Adekunle Ojo, 2nd Vice President; Mr Barth Okoye-Aniche, 3rd Vice President; Mr Ibrahim Mark, General Secretary and Mrs. Tess Morris-Okeke, Treasurer.

The list include Mrs. Enahmen Mark, Financial Secretary; Mr Murtala Oladimeji, Publicity Secretary; Mr Francis Ekwere, 1st Assistant Secretary, Mr Muheed Komolafe, 2nd Assistant Secretary and Mr Steve Onoye, Assistant Financial Secretary.
