Politician Arraigned For Alleged Bus Theft

Ibadan - Sunday Alamu, former AD executive in Ibadan South-West Local Government, has appeared before an Ibadan Chief Magistrate’s Court charged with stealing a Toyota Hiace bus, valued at N650,000.

The bus was alleged to be property of Action Congress (AC), Ibadan South-West Local Government since all the executive members of AD in the local government had defected to AC.

Alamu, 53, appeared before Chief Magistrate Olaide Quadri on a one-count charge of theft. He pleaded not guilty and was subsequently admitted to a bail for N100,000 and one surety. Police Prosecutor Timothy Matthew told the court that the accused was among the group of politicians that defected from the AD to AC more than four years ago.
Matthew said that Alamu disposed of the bus that was entrusted to him since they defected, when he observed that none of the members came to ask for it. Matthew told newsmen that the bus carried the name and logo of AD before it was sold by the accused. The prosecutor said that when confronted by his members on the whereabouts of the bus, Alamu admitted that he sold the bus.

He said that he had to sell it in order to offset the bill that he had been paying on the land on which it was parked. According to Matthew, “the accused said that he was paying N80 daily to the owner of a mechanic workshop where the property was parked.” The case has been adjourned till Nov. 6 for hearing.
