Lafia (NasSarawa) - Civil servants in Nasarawa State are jittery over how to celebrate the sallah because their September salaries have not been paid.
Investigations in Lafia showed that many of the workers could not make their sallah purchases.
“We were expecting to get salary before this week runs out, yet there was no information and today is Thursday,” the workers said as at last week.
A Worker, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said the government was nonchalant over their plight because arrangements for payment of salaries were supposed to have been made by now.
Many of the workers explained what they were passing through during one month fasting, which they described as tough time.
Reports say that this development had affected traders at the markets, leading to the recording of low patronage and sales.
Mallam Usman Audu, a trader at the Kasuwan Alhamis, told newsmen that people only came and bought tomatoes and pepper but there was no increase in sales.
He said even rice sellers who expected high sales were disappointed as customers were not forthcoming.
Mallam Habibu Aminu, a businessman, said he intended to use the sallah break to stay at home and would not share foods to neighbours as before, rather only members of the household would get food.
Reports say that as the sallah approaches, the state capital still seemed unprepared for the festive occasion.
