Court Dissolves Marriage Over Intolerance

LAGOS- The Mushin Customary Court in Lagos has dissolved the five-year-old marriage between a civil servant, Mr. Adeniyi Adeoshin, and his wife Onyia, over the latter’s intolerance.

The President of the Court, Dr Abayomi Ipaye, dissolved the marriage following a divorce suit filed by Adeniyi, 33, on July 10.

He said that the efforts of the court to reconcile the estranged couple were in vain as the petitioner insisted on divorce.

Ipaye gave the custody of the couple’s three children to Onyia, 30, and ordered the petitioner to pay N7,500 monthly for the children’s upkeep.

The president added that Adeniyi should be responsible for the education and the healthcare of the children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeniyi filed the suit on July 10, alleging that he always quarreled with his wife because of her intolerance and disobedience.

“My wife has not been taking good care of me and my three children,’’ he claimed, adding that she always quarreled with her neighbours.

The plaintiff had prayed the court to grant him the custody of the three children whose ages range from one year to five years.

In her response, Onyia, a seam mistress, told the court that she would not want the dissolution of the marriage, but a reconciliation.
