Man Bags 6 Months For Impersonation

Abuja - An Abuja Upper Area Court, sitting at Gudu, has sentenced one Umar Abdullahi to six months imprisonment for impersonating the Sarki Bwari, Dr Musa Ijakoro.

The president of the court, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced the accused to three months imprisonment with N2,000 option of fine for each of the count charges.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Philip Akogwu, told the court that the accused was arraigned on a two-count-charge of impersonation and forgery.

Akogwu told the court that Abdullahi was arrested and brought to Garki police station by ASP Garba Babayo on August 29.

He said Abdullahi, made phone calls to the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, claiming that he was the chief of Bwari.

“Abdullahi went to meet the former CJN on September 5, 2008, to solicit financial assistance from him on the pretence that he is the Sarki Bwari.

“He claimed that his house was raised by fire and that the CJN should render him financial assistance,” the prosecutor said.

He said it was at this point that a suspecting Belgore alerted the police.

According to him, police investigations showed that Abdullahi was not the Serki Bwari and his house was not gutted by fire.

He said investigations also revealed that a letter, which the accused signed, soliciting help from the former CJN as Sarki Bwari, was forged.

The accused pleaded guilty and blamed his action on the devil.

“The devil pushed me, I am facing many problems. My family problems forced me to go to the CJN for help.

“My wife delivered a baby boy who had some health crisis and I needed a lot of money to solve that problem.
