FRSC Bans Sale Of Alcoholic Drinks At Parks

Ado-Ekiti - The Ekiti State Command of the FRSC is to stop the sale of alcoholic drinks in all motor parks in the state as part of efforts to reduce carnage on the roads in the ‘ember’ months.

The State Sector Commander, Mr. Chima Nwachukwu, who disclosed this at the flag-off of Enlightenment Campaign for the ‘Ember’ months, threatened to impose heavy sanctions on anybody that flouted the “safe driving Codes”.

Nwachukwu observed that the activities of alcohol sellers at the motor parks often induced drivers to take to drunkenness before starting their journeys.

“As part of our efforts at curtailing dangerous driving and drunkenness among the commercial drivers in the state, the Command is to commence the dismantling of alcoholic drink sellers at all motor parks.

“Our effort is targeted at preventing people from selling any form of alcoholic drink inside the motor parks or near the motor parks in Ekiti state,” he said.

According to him, officers of the Command have been deployed to various black spots and major roads in the state to curtail the activities of those who try to break the laws.

Nwachukwu said the sensitisation programme was designed to enlighten commercial, private and motorbike drivers on the evil inherent in reckless driving and the flouting of the Road Codes and Ethics Nwachukwu also warned that any commercial driver involved in overloading, would be fined and would have the excess passengers off loaded.
