LAGOS- WAEC said it withheld the results of 74,956 candidates who sat for the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over alleged malpractice.
The examination held three months ago in May/June.
The Head of the National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, said this at a news conference in Lagos .
Uwadiae announced that the council released the results of 1,136,387 of the 1,369,142 candidates who sat for the examination.
He said 232,755 candidates had some of their subjects being processed as a result of errors made by the candidates during registration and examination.
The HNO said the errors were being corrected manually by the council because they could not be handled by the computer. He said the alleged cases of examination malpractice had been compiled for presentation to the Nigeria Examinations Committee of the Council.
“The committee’s decision will be communicated to the affected candidates through the schools that presented them for the examination,” he said.
He advised candidates who sat for the examination to check their results on the council’s website www.waecdirect.org as from today.
Uwadiae decried the leakage of some of the examination papers, noting that WAEC had to cancel the affected papers and rescheduled them to guard its integrity.
The HNO said the council would continue to embark on various projects that would enhance its services to Nigerians.
