NAFDAC Destroys N14m Drugs In Kaduna

KADUNA-NAFDAC’s Zonal Officer in Kaduna ,Mr. Adedeji Akinwunmi, said that the agency destroyed drugs worth N14 million in Kaduna zone in the last nine months. He told newsmen in Kaduna that the agency had sanctioned 450 dealers in drugs and various consumable items for non-compliance with established rules.

He said while some of the dealers had their premises closed, others had their licences revoked.

He noted that the items destroyed included 230 bags of 50kg unrefined and unfortified sugar valued at N1.3 million and 3,300 unregistered mosquito coils, valued at N1.4 million.

Others included 120 bags of salt, as well as some unspecified baskets of drugs from hawkers. Akinwunmi said the agency had embarked on a massive enlightenment to educate the public on the dangers of patronising unregistered goods.

He said the agency was holding meetings with agro-chemicals and grains dealers on the sale and appropriate application of such chemicals on food items as preservatives.

The zonal officer appealed to citizens to avoid buying unregistered consumables in the interest of their health.
