KATSINA-Katsina State Command of the NDLEA, has intercepted 582 kilograms of Indian hemp at Dandagoro village near Katsina.
The Commander, Alhaji Hamisu Lawan, who disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina said the substances contained in 56 bags, were intercepted last week during the agency’s raid.
He also stated that a J5 bus with registration number XA 227 DJA used for trafficking the goods was impounded. He said: “ This seizure brings the number of intercepted drugs to about two tonnes within the last nine months in the state.”
The commander also disclosed that a total of 102 drug offenders were convicted and sentenced to various jail terms in the state, while 10 suspects were being investigated in connection with drug offences.
Lawan, who re-affirmed the agency’s commitment toward stamping out drug abuse in the state, further commended the State Government for its continued support to the NDLEA. The State Government had on Sept. 1, donated two Toyota Hilux vans to the NDLEA command to facilitate its operation.
