Nigeria pledges support for Ghana’s polls

Abuja – Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana , has pledged the country’s readiness to ensure free and fair election in Ghana.
Ghana is holding its general election in December.

Obanikoro told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that stability in Ghana was vital to Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

According to him, stability in Ghana is very important for Nigeria because of the economic and the socio-political relations between the two countries.

He said that whatever happened in Ghana in the past had always had a spillover on Nigeria hence the determination of the government to fully support the election.

“It is important for us to ensure the success of Ghana ‘s general election,” he said.
He said that although details of the support had yet to be worked out, Nigeria was prepared to collaborate with the Ghanaian government for successful election.

He said, however, that modalities were being worked out on ways to strengthen security operations between the two countries to ensure that people involved in dubious dealings were brought to book.

“It is important for us to make it extremely difficult for people to get away with crime and this can only be achieved through collaboration and cooperation between the security networks of both countries,” he said.

He said that with the co-operation of Interpol as well as EFCC and that of its Ghanaian counterpart, crime rate between both countries would be reduced drastically.
