IDOGBO – The Federal Government has again been reminded of the need to properly fund the local government tier of administration instead of planning to scrapping it.
Speaking with newsmen, the Deputy Leader of the legislative arm of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Amen Ogbemudia Uhunmwangho said that the local government was the third tier of government closest to the grassroots.
Hon. (Mrs.) Uhunmwangho maintained that it would be wrong for the Federal Government to think of scrapping it.
She maintained that without the third tier of government the grassroots would not enjoy the dividends of democracy.
She declared that “today, most of the rural areas had benefitted from the dividends of democracy under the present administration of Professor Oserheimen Osunbo”.
The Deputy Leader, Ikpoba-Okha legislative arm urged the Federal Government to shun the idea and think of how to empower the local government councils financially so that the needed dividends of democracy would get to all.
Mrs. Uhunmwangho commended the state Chief Executive, (Prof.) Oserheimen Osunbor for his developmental efforts across the state, adding that the eight years of the past administration was a waste.
