BENIN CITY- Edo State House of Assembly is in receipt of a petition from the law firm of Ogbebor & Co, requesting the Parliament to wade into the gruesome murder of one late Mr. Ikponmwosa Obasuyi, who was killed by a “trigger happy Mobile Police man on Sunday, October 5, 2008.
The late Obasuyi was shot by a Mobile Policeman attached to Evbuotubu Police Divisional headquaters in Egor Local Government Area of the state.
The said mobile police man was on guard at a social function.
Titled: “Re-Gruesome murder of late Mr. Ikponmwosa Obasuyi, demand for Justice;” the petitioner in his letter to the Edo State House of Assembly, said since the incident occurred in Benin City, all efforts made to get the State Police Command respond to the incident had proved abortive as series of entreaties made by the family of the deceased to the police had met a brick wall.
Upon receipt of the petition, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba, however, committed it to the House Standing Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
The committee, according to the Speaker, is expected to submit its report within two weeks to the House for consideration.
However, a motion calling on the government and the traditional council to call to order, all land speculators under the disguise of youth development association in Edo State, was deferred to a later date.
Also deferred was a motion calling for clearing of hindrances along natural water ways in Edo State as well as the consideration of the report of the Public Accounts Committee of the Edo State House of Assembly, on the Audited Accounts of the State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
