BENIN CITY –-In pursuance of the greater realisation of the objectives of the World Bank sponsored Fadama III Agriculture Programme in Oredo Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Hon. Mike Nosa-Ehima, has been chosen to lead the Local Technical Committee in the locality.
After a brief inauguration ceremony of the Local Technical Committee, which includes the representative of the Benin Monarch, Hon. Nosa-Ehima reiterated the determination of his administration to the successful implementation of the Fadama III programme.
The council chairman disclosed that Oredo Local Government Area had its own fair share of farmers, who should be assisted to boost food production and sufficiency in order to enhance the nation’s security in the face of a persistent World Food Crisis.
Hon. Nosa-Ehima assured of his administration’s preparedness to make agriculture a thriving business in the locality, and noted that Oredo Local Government was ready to partner with agricultural development initiatives of individuals, Non-Governmental Organisations and other corporate bodies.
The council chairman maintained that Oredo had not defaulted so far in the payment of its counterpart funding requirements to the World Bank and added that farming should be given the due attention by all tiers of government.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Fadama III, Mr. R.A. Awomah, who conducted the inauguration ceremony of the Local Technical Committee in the local government area, explained that the World Bank was paying greater attention to the proper coordination and supervision of the Fadama III Programme.
Mr. Aviomah urged local government councils across the state to ensure they met their counterpart funding responsibilities, warning that it was only when they did this that the World Bank would release funds accordingly.
