ABUJA - FIFA and CAF technical committee member, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has given a warning shot to Nigerian football fans to avoid over-celebrating yesterday’s final draw for the 2010 World Cup.
With the Super Eagles grouped alongside Tunisia, Mozambique and Kenya, many soccer fans are already talking about an easy passage to South Africa 2010.
However, the Modakeke high chief said in an interview with brilafm.net that he hopes the Super Eagles would have learnt the lessons of failing to qualify for Germany 2006, while stressing that anything can happen in modern day football.
“I don’t believe in any straight forward idea about football. We should know that all 20 countries that qualified for this stage of the competition did so through tough matches in the previous round.
“We should accep0t that every team has an equal chance of qualifying. Nigerians should not look at the group and conclude that it will be an easy ride for the Eagles, especially after what happened the last time.
“Nigerians should remember what happened when the team failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. I believe the Super Eagles must have learnt their lesson,” he reasoned.
