OGHARA (DELTA STATE) – A board member and one-time Team Manager Rangers International FC of Enugu, Davidson Owumi has applauded the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) body for its hard stance on violent club supporters.
The former Flying Antolope’s attacking wizard a.k.a. Okada air made the commendation recently in a week 7-league clash between Bayelsa United and Akwa United in Delta State.
Mr. Owumi who made the comment against the backdrop of the absence of suspended Bayelsa fans in the week 7 clash, noted that peace tend to reign in league venues without supporters who are always very emotional if things are not going the way of their club.
According to him, “I think this kind of suspension is good for some stubborn supporters who will not allow peace reign in match venues, because the occasion do not favour their club,” he enthused.
The outspoken former member of the Nigeria Club Owners body also enjoined security agents in match venues where fans have been suspended not to allow themselves to be used by miscreants.
This follows a situation where some fans sneaked into the stadium standing and sitting among the policemen claiming to be police officers in mufti, even as they (supporters have been banned).
Mr. Owumi who was an accessor in the week 7 Bayelsa/Akwa clash warned that such behaviour is capable of denting the image of the police force.
