LAGOS -The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is planning an interactive programme with Nigerians to enlighten them on the forthcoming U.S. presidential election.
A statement from the Public Affairs Section of the consulate on Monday said the programme would hold on Thursday in Lagos in recognition of Nigerians’ high level of interest in the elections.
The statement signed by a Public Affairs Officer, Jennifer Walsh, said that Prof. Clyde Wilcox of the Georgetown University , an expert in electoral behaviour, would discuss with the audience via a digital video conference.
“He will be discussing the campaigns, the candidates, the issues, the opinion polls and the likely outcome of the elections.
“There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions on the U.S. election process,” the statement said.
Reports say that this year’s U.S. presidential election has generated an unprecedented interest in Nigeria and other parts of Africa because an African-American, Mr. Barak Obama, is a candidate.
A fundraiser was recently organised by a group of Nigerians to generate fund for Obama’s campaign, although it was later overturned by the Nigerian authorities.
