Edo State it appears is losing out of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) intervention programme as federal government assistance in some project areas.
Briefing newsmen at the State House, Abuja on the outcome of Thursday’s MDG quarterly briefing held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Egberamwen Odubu disclosed that Edo State lost out entirely from the MDG intervention programme, an indication that the previous government did not apply to relevant authorities for intervention.
Such areas of intervention, he said included the roll – back malaria programme and other programmes that are mainly targeted to benefit the rural populace.
The quarterly briefing which was presided over by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan had in attendance, representatives of various states and other stakeholders.
However, the deputy governor remarked that, it has been discussed and agreed that Edo State should send its application for intervention, with areas of interest.
While hoping that the application would receive quick attention, he said the State Government would take steps to regularize all lapses created by previous government so that the state can begin to reap the benefits of the MDG initiative by the first quarter of next year.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor has inspected Edo State lodge (old and new) in Asokoro district of the federal capital territory.
He was conducted round by one of the state liaison officers, Mr. Festus Osaigbovo.
