.It is no longer news that the world most crucial presidential election in our lifetime, was worn by Senator Barack Obama.
Since Obama was announced the winner of the presidential election in America, the hearts of many Americans and Blacks (especially), have yet, not failed in rejoicing, as Senator Barack Obama would ascend the white house as the 44th president and the First African – American president in the history of the world’s most powerful country (American).
When Obama accepted the nomination for presidency, a huge number of Black-Americans could not but rather give their help by supporting him to become the first black-American president. Initially, the reality of this dream seemed faint to every individual. To many, the reality would never come because whites were still surplus in the white house and the question on how Obama would pave his way into the hearts of these intended superior white men, was also a problem.
Most times, I ask: Wasn’t it obvious that McCain was whiter than Obama in complexion? Unlike Nigerians, what matters to Americans is not the candidate with the money, colour or even age, but the individual with the power to carry Americans along to the next level. Of course, Obama was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, his father Barack Obama Snr, grew up herding goats with his own father. Obama himself was a community organizer in Chicago, there, he received low income. So also was his wife Michelle, she was raised in Chicago’s Southside in a one-bed room apartment. But his words were words of power.
Obama never needed to corrupt the youths to rig the election for him, neither did he have to involve himself in several unclean practices to win the election. But his words and actions, were enough reasons to penetrate and influence the hearts of Americans to vote him into the white house. That is why November 4th would ever remain fresh in the world history, as Barack Obama’s dream of the Baptist Pastor “Martin Luther King” and Robert F. Kennedy. I hold steadfast that were ever they may be today their hearts would forever leap for Joy, as the discrimination and rascism of the Blacks would now remain a thing of the past. Nobody would need a reason or example to know that words of the tongue are very powerful, irrespective of time. It’s been 40 years ago since Robert F. Kennedy predicted that Americans would one day have a black president, and today the reality of that fantasy have come.
Prior to 1960; many Black Americans were deprived of certain right especially the right to vote. Many were battered, killed and imprisoned. They were prevented from visiting certain areas, as banner flawn the air, declaring were blacks and only whites should be seen. Racism continued in America especially on the franchise to vote, until 1965. when the “Civil Right Movement” was moved to end the restriction of Black-Americans in casting their votes. But racisms never ended there, because whites have already developed the habit and conviction that blacks were inferior. But today, Obama’s victory have disproved this fact.
Obama who is spirited with intelligence, knowledge and wisdom was able to move crowd in all parts of the globe through his campaign as a democrat, who ever says that money matters more than love in the family, may never experience what Obama is experiencing now. With so much love, support and concern coming from his family, Obama was able to move crowd. It was even enough reason to have convinced the electorates that a caring family would equally have much respect to offer humanity. For Michelle Obama, simplicity is her style. Unlike politicians wives in Nigeria, who would depend solely on gold accessories, shoes, hand bags, head i.e, expensive wrappers and many others to appear good looking in the society. Michelle Obama is the opposite. A true fashions does not need to have a wardrobe filled with expensive outfits or accessories, but rather, a collection of classic charisma, confidence, and been smart to appear beautiful. That is what Michelle Obama depicts. She is a very good-looking woman with smile of strong grace. In May 2006, Michelle Obama was featured in Essence magazine as one of the 25th of the world most inspiring woman. In September 2007, she was listed in 02123 magazine as number 58 in “The Harvard” list of the most influential alumn for the year. She was made the vanity fair best dressed list, and as well as peoples magazines 2008 best dressed list. This is an example of a leader.
Barrack Obama and his wife Michelle, understands the power of struggle. Obama as the president of the people, did not begin at the federal level, but rather started from the grass root, before becoming a senator, and now a president. The story of Obama is really a story that should be told over and over again in Nigeria. He is a man of intelligence, responsibility, and strictly a man of service to the people. His victory have not only penetrated into America, Africa, Nigeria, but have also had a massive effect on Edo State.
Just as November 4th would remain a blissful day and history for Americans and the black race, so will November 11 in Edo State. This was a day when the peoples Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole was vindicated by the Appeal Court, over the April 14 2007 Governorship election in Edo State. It was celebration galore for everyone in Edo state, children, youths, the aged, market women, security agents (Police, SARS, Army), even bats, all bounced to the streets and roads of Edo State, rejoicing over the mandate of the newly elected Governor. On like every other days in the state people were found in bar rooms, restaurants and other fast food joints celebrating the victory that for once, their votes counted. Comrade Adams Oshiomole is a man of determination, and good sense of struggle. Just as he did not fail in his fight for justice, so have the people trusted in him, that his administration would not fail. These are examples of the kind of leaders Nigeria needs to develop (OBAMA, OSHIOMOLE). With God on our side, the Judiciary are becoming independent by the day. It now serves as the last hope for the common man. The victory of Oshiomole is divine favour from God that would shine on the people. Such divine favour are what we need as a country to grow. Our educational system is dropping by the day. People with visions, dreams, can hardly achieve their aims in school. Most government schools turn out be worse. In many cases, students study under buildings without roofs (come rain, come sun). These usually have a massive psychological effect on children. Students who fall victims of this mess are those whose parents may not have the required resources to train their children in good schools, but every parents would want their children to become the Obama and Oshiomole of our time.
Can Obama and Oshiomole arise from the kind of educational system we have? The answer is No!
Also, the corrupt system of running things in the society today, also have an effect on the growth of the country. Many of our leaders have good dreams of turning the country into what it ought to be, but due to corrupt practices, the reality of this seems faint.
If corruption alone can be completely wiped out from Nigeria, then we can say that the nation have been delivered from a sickness worse than the dreaded HIV/AIDS.
The ramification of corrupt practices in both public and private sectors is now a thing of concern. But the strict erondification of corruption becomes another thing to achieve. Leaving by examples, our leaders should always ensure that they are free from corrupt practices, so that the led would equally find the right path to follow.
Therefore, all hands should be on deck in trying to curb the basic problems we face in Nigeria. As the blessings of God shines on Obama, so it has shown on Comrade Adams Oshiomole, and so it will remain with our great Nation Nigeria.
