The world have become more complex than its was in the 80’s, when things was much more easier, that with little income life was more comfortable compare to this present time. In our country to day, the economy has gotten worst, it is retrogressing instead of development.
Things has become so difficult that even graduate find it difficult to take three square meal a day, no matter how much you earn, its not always sufficient to keep soul and body together not to talk of rising a family.
Its no longer encouraging to go to school and become graduate because other graduate are all rooming the street without job. Those that have gone through the four walls of higher institution are lamenting today because there is nothing to show for all their effort of waking up very early for classes, sleeping without food, the stress of assignment, test, exams and the likes. Not to talk of the one year compulsory service for graduate.
The society we live in today is not for the graduate but it’s a society of the survival of the fittest. Being a graduate is not enough, you must be strong and possibly learn other trade to support yourself if you want to live a good life in the society we have found ourselves today.
We live in a society where we depend on ourselves for survival-after your graduation, alot of expectation from your family your brother, sister, nephew, nieces are all lined up to be sponsored by you, how can you do this without a job? How can a person who can’t even feed him/ herself now take care of others who are depending on him/her?
The job problem that graduate are facing in the society today may be the direct cause why men find it very difficult to get marry and start a family. How will some body, who is not able to feed himself now get married, feed his wife and children, is this not a suicide mission?
Due to finance problem men now shy away from marriage rather they get sex gratification with multiple sex partners to keep the going instead of getting married.
The Nigeria society today is confronted with low income for its working force which can not take care of their responsibilities. The ever-increasing price of goods and service in the market makes it difficult for them to cope. Take for example graduate who earn between N7,000 to N15,000 monthly with family responsibilities, accommodation and feeding in the house, his nice and nephew to care for among others with this responsibility and low pay packet, it becomes difficult to survive even as a graduate
In the 80s, an average middle class Nigeria live very comfortably on his salary, can take good care of his family both immediate and extended family.
But what is obtainable them can not be obtainable now, as the common man has lost hope in the country. No matter how worst things are for us as a nation, all hope should not be lost as gradually things will get better again. All we need is to hope for good leaders who will turn the God given resources to transform the lives and standard of living of the economy. It’s a shame to be among the richest nations and yet parades people that are so poor, is this not an irony? Call it the irony of life, you may not be wrong.
The government should put the necessary facilities on ground and create job or jobs opportunities for the thousands of graduate, undergraduate and even the uneducated alike. The crime rate has continue to be on the increasing side based on idleness of the youth and they will do anything to keep soul and body together.
Robbery, assassination, murder, 419ners yahoo boys, prostitution and the likes have become the other of the day in our society.
The only way to reduce this problem of crime is to keep the youth, graduate and those that want to work busy with jobs. Skill acquisition is one sure way of creating job by making this people self employed and also creating jobs for others.
The graduates should look beyond being employed rather they should create an avenue to employ others by creating a job for themselves through skill acquisition or insisting is business.
They should not only rely on the government alone because individual play a vital role in achieving his/her goal and fulfilling his/her purpose rather them waiting for the government to come and help fulfil personal goals. The family of these graduates shouldn’t leave them alone all for the name that they have graduated they need to support them.
They should monitor their well being till they are able to fend for themselves because no man will be financially buoyant and will forget his background rather it will spur the individual involved to be more hardworking because were he/she is coming from but many parents do not care about the well being of their children after graduating because there are so many other responsibilities to tied to them especially those polygamous home which one man could marry two to three wives with so many children so they feel once they can be able to train them to higher institution, they will definitely be on their own without further assistance.
