Ijebu-East Woos Investors

 

 

ABUJA - Ijebu-East Local Government of Ogun is willing to allocate up to 50 hectares free of charge as an incentive to investors willing to invest in the area.


The Chairman, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye made the offer call while speaking with newsmen in Abuja at the weekend.


He said the gesture was based on the fact that the area had the largest land mass and also endowed with agricultural resources.


According to him, Ijebu-East is the largest producer of cocoa in the state and also produces cassava, banana as well as fish in large quantities.


He said that the major challenge facing the local government was how to attract investors to take advantage of the agricultural resources in the area.


Investment in the area, he said, would help create wealth among the people, adding that the local government was willing to partner with organisations and agencies willing to establish in the area.


He said: “the purpose of my visit to Abuja is to explore possibility of partnership with national and international agencies to enable our farmers to access credit facilities with minimal interest.


He said that the local government was planning a development summit on agriculture, which would help to educate farmers in the area on current developments in the sector.


The chairman said that since assumption of office, his administration had been supporting farmers with agricultural inputs to encourage them.


“Since our administration came on board, we have done some intervention in the form of distribution of farming implements to over 400 farmers within the local government.


“We have purchased 5,000 cocoa seedlings and insecticides which would soon be distributed to farmers free at the end of a workshop being organised by the local government,’’ the chairman said.
He said that the local government had paid its counterpart fund for National Food Security Programme (NPFS) of N3.6 million and N2 million for FADAMA III.
