BENIN CITY - Oredo local government council has reiterated its commitment to the educational development of youths in the locality through adequate provision of infrastructures, learning material and bursary awards.
Council chairman, Hon. Mike Nosa-Ehima, gave the reassurance shortly after receiving the 2008 National Association of Edo State Students Award of Excellence, conferred on him by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, chapter of the Association.
Hon. Nosa-Ehima reaffirmed that his administration was out to make a concrete statement in service delivery to the people of Oredo local government area, and noted that the dividends were already being expressed in the execution of outstanding projects from schools to magistrate courts, to markets and road construction.
The council boss maintained that education plays a pivotal role in moulding the character components of youths who are future leaders, noting that this underscores his administration’s high premium on comprehensive youth development and empowerment.
Hon. Nosa-Ehima noted that Oredo local government council was not only focusing on the formal education of youths in the locality, but was equally assisting to develop those outside the four walls of the classroom, by establishing two Skills Acquisition Centres to train youths in marketable skills free of charge.
The council boss commended the students for presenting him the Award and noted that the recognition would further challenge him and his team to do more for the people of the local government area.
While calling on the students to stay away from all forms of social vices within and outside their campuses, Hon. Nosa-Ehima assured them of council’s support at all times, disclosing that plans have reached advanced stages to work out bursary payments to oredo students in tertiary institutions across the country.
Earlier, the President of the National Association of Edo State Students, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, chapter, Mr. Mohammed Salihu maintained that Hon. Nosa-Ehima was honoured in recognition of his sterling leadership qualities and contribution to the growth and development of educational infrastructures in the locality.
High point of the occasion was the formal presentation of the plaque of honour to the council chairman, Hon. Mike Nosa-Ehima, by the secretary of the students’ body Odih Imoghere.
