BENIN CITY-A 36 year old widow of three children, Mrs. Patience Iyoha is currently in agony from burns inflicted on her, by her elder brother over refusal to be sent overseas.
Narrating her ordeal to the Special Assistant to Edo State Governor on Human Trafficking, Mrs. Henrietta Agun, in Benin City yesterday, Mrs. Iyoha, who is an indigene of Igueben Local Government Area, said the incident happened on April 12, 2008 when she attended a burial ceremony where the elder brother surprisingly met her and poured fuel on her and thereafter set fire on her.
She alleged that the said brother had been insisting that she should travel abroad and that she had consistently turned down the proposal.
Since then, the widow had been nursing the injury which had deteriorated and spread over her face, hands, shoulders, chest up to her legs.
Mrs. Iyoha is currently being catered for by her aged mother at her residence in Benin City since she returned from the hospital.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Human Trafficking, Mrs. Henrietta Agun decried the incident and lamented the deteriorating health condition of Mrs. Iyoha, describing the situation as man’s inhumanity to man.
Mrs. Agun, however, assured the widow that the Edo State Government had promptly stepped in to save her life.
She described the state Governor, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor as a man who cares for the people of the state, pointing out that preparations were being put in place to immediately take her to Central Hospital, Benin City for prompt medical attention and henceforth the administration of Prof. Osunbor had taken the responsibility to care for her.
