Egor LG treasurer explains Supplementary Budget

By MATTHEW OKAGHA

USELU ––The Treasurer to Egor Local Government Council, Mr. Kessington Osifo, JP, has explained that the need for a supplementary budget for the 2008 fiscal year has become expedient because of the desire of the incumbent administration to execute projects–that tally with the yearnings and aspirations of the people in the locality.
Mr. Osifo stated this while presenting facts behind the figures before the Egor Legislative Assembly yesterday.

The council’s treasurer noted that the 2008 budget had been christened “Budget of Rejuvenation”, adding that the presentation of’Facts Behind Figures was aimed at providing details and the overriding goals which formed the basis upon which the supplementary budget was conceived and computed.

Mr. Osifo stated that the supplementary budget which was computed on a projected revenue of N1,837,5000,000 would enable the administration to address specific fundamental challenges which include the rot and decay of infrastructural capacity, poverty, demotivated workforce and dwindling productive spirit, the scourge of filthy environment and the provisions of basic social amenities to some communities which were not captured in the original budget.

The Leader of Egor Legislative Arm, Hon. Bright Omoriyekemwen commended the treasurer for the brilliant presentation, and thereafter sent the supplementary budget to the Finance and Appropriation Committee for proper scrutiny.

Meanwhile, a bill for a bye-law to provide for the maintenance, regulation and usage of Uwelu/Evbareke market roads and their adjoining streets packing lots and other related matters which was sponsored by the councillor representing Ward 05, Hon. Victor Okpaifo has sailed through the third reading, and now ready for the assent of the chairman of the council.

Also, a bill for a bye-law to provide for the protection, preservation and maintenance of monuments, artifacts, etc and other related matters which is sponsored by Hon. Olaye Osaretin, councillor Ward 04, was presented for reading yesterday on the floor of the House.

The bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Business and Rules for thorough scrutiny.
