BENIN CITY ––Workers in Edo State Civil Service yesterday resumed work after a three-day public holiday observed to mark the Eid-El-Fitri and Independence Day celebrations.
Also students in public schools were seen resuming after the public holiday.
Visits to the secretariat along Sapele Road and other ministries, departments, and parastatals yesterday in the state capital by our correspondents showed that workers resumed early for duties while many were seen busy carrying out their various assigned duties.
Besides, school children were seen in their various schools receiving lectures.
Some staff who spoke with The NIGERIAN OBSERVER reporters said they traveled to their respective villages while those who spent their holiday in Benin City lamented the high cost of foodstuffs occasioned by the Sallah celebration but disclosed that the long holiday was worthwhile as it afforded them, the opportunity to visit friends and play with their children and wards at home.
According to Imonekhe, Public Officer, state Ministry of Environment and Transport, the large turn out of staff yesterday was a reflection that they were eager to resume work.
Some secondary school students who spoke with our reporters stated that they were anxious to resume classes and face their academic challenges.
It was, however, gathered that due to the holidays, the volume of work in some ministries and departments had increased which necessitated the busy atmosphere observed in these places of work.
Some offices yesterday had large turn out of visitors waiting to be attended to.
On his part, the Chief Supervisor, Operation Clean Up Edo State, Mr. P. Osaigbovo while reflecting on the Independence Day celebration, said things had begun to change positively in the state and nation and called on Nigerians to eschew corruption, which he said had become the cankerworm destroying the country.
