IDANRE - The Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State has awarded N471 million contract for the construction of Idanre and Alade township roads.
The Chairman, Mr. Afolabi Adesoji, told newsmen on Tuesday in Akure that three-kilometre roads would be constructed in the two towns respectively.
Adesoji identified the roads as Starlight Hotel road in Alade and mission and Onigbon roads both in Idanre township.
He said the projects were being financed from the council’s excess crude fund worth N400 million and its statutory allocation.
The chairman said the council was committed to giving Alade and Idanre, a facelift by improving their road network.
He said rural roads would be given priority during the dry season in order to link the rural villages and farmstead with the urban centre.
This is aimed at encouraging farmers to increase their productivity, he said.
According to him, the measure will encourage youths to embrace agriculture, improve accessibility to farmsteads as well as to transport their farm produce to markets in the state.
“The excess crude oil fund was specifically earmarked for the development of township and rural roads in the area, because the council’s statutory allocation from federation account was inadequate,’’ he said. |
