Abuja- Mr. Kingsley Bangwell, Executive Director, Youngstar Foundation, an NGO, has urged youths to join the fight against corruption by posing pertinent questions to those in authority.
The executive director stated this today in Abuja in an interview with newsmen.
He called on the youth to imbibe the culture of asking questions to make public office holders accountable to the people. Bangwell also spoke on issues of leadership training and integrity as a focal point of the Foundation.
“ We have developed a comprehensive programme that looks at democracy and all it entails, it runs for three semesters. “Participants are expected to pass on what they have learnt to people in their community,’’ he said. Bangwell observed that Nigeria needed to groom transformational leaders, who would translate virtues of integrity, honesty and accountability into the psyche of the nation.
“When a child is able to ask his parent why someone should pay for him to do his national service in Abuja, and why someone should be paid to sit his exams, then we can be rest assured that corruption can be reduced to the barest minimum.
“This is what we are targeting to achieve at the Foundation, training people who will come to make things better,” he said.
He advised Nigerian leaders to show exemplary leadership to young people in the areas of ethics, morals and values. He encouraged parents to help instill good family values in their children for a better and stronger society.
“What forms our ethics and values are family, peers, school system, communities and governance, among others.
“The youths are the hope of our nation, we need to give them good training for them to live up to expectations,” he said.
