CALABAR - Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River has described the late Oyo Orok (Mr. Football) as a man whose exploits brought many honours to the state.
Imoke made the remarks here in Calabar when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
He acknowledged the onerous contributions of the elder statesman in many areas of human endeavour. “By his demise, a vacuum has been created which will be difficult to fill.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of the state, I pray the Almighty God to grant the soul of the departed peace in his bosom,’’ he prayed.
Responding on behalf of the bereaved family, the widow, Mrs. Iniko Orok, thanked the government for sharing with the family in their moment of grief. Imoke was accompanied by the State Information Commissioner, Mr. Edet Asim and the State Football Association Chairman, Chief Essien Ayi.
Meanwhile, the funeral service of Mr. Football will hold at the main bowl of U. J. Esuene Stadium tomorrow.
