LAGOS - Trigo Egbegi, Secretary of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), said that Samuel Peter would successfully defend his heavyweight title against Vitali Klitschko.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Peter is expected to clash with Klitschko, who is the top challenger and the WBC heavyweight emeritus on Oct. 11, in Germany.
Egbegi told NAN in Lagos that the Oct. 11 clash was another glorious night for Nigeria .
He described Peter as a heavyweight fighter to be reckoned with and one of the best in the world at the moment.
He said he did not see how Klitschko, who has been idle for about four years, can roll back the years to dethrone a fighter, who has been more active.
Acknowledging that the challenger carried a heavy punch and had a longer reach, Egbegi said the Nigerian champion was also a big hitter.
He said the Ukrainian was taking a big gamble by going into the ring against a fighter, who has been very active.
He said the challenger respected the champion and had been avoiding him for years, adding that Peter’s performance against Oleg Maskaev on March 8 was a pointer to the Nigerian’s capability.
