Ward Environmental C’ttee Inaugurated In Etsako Central

The District Authority and Ward Environmental committees were last Thursday inaugurated at Fugar, the headquarters of the Etsako Central Local Government Area.

Delivering his address at the occasion, the council chairman, Hon. Joseph Ugheoke said that appointment of the chairman and members into the two committees was a call to duty in the continued quest to service and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the local government.

Continuing, Hon. Ugheoke said with the inauguration of the two committees, the frontiers of democratic governance at the grassroots have further been expanded, adding that it is his expectation that the people of the local government would henceforth participate more in the activities and programmes of the council area.

The services of the committees, according to Mr. Ugheoke are advisory and on part time basis.
Commenting on the duties of the committees, the chairman said that the district authority is expected to disseminate as well as explain the policies and programmes of the LGA to the people of the localities, while the Environment committee members are to oversee the ward on behalf of the Environmental unit and report cases of compliance.

Hon. Ugheoke urged the committee members not to be partisan in the discharge of their duties and to give an unbiased and true feedback through their councilors to the Exco on the feelings of the people with respect to the governments programmes and activities.

He instructed them to further consolidate the existing peaceful atmosphere among the people and bring to his notice and that of the security agencies any potential threat to peace in their communities for prompt action.
