BENIN CITY – The Chairman of Uzebu Community Development Association (UCDA), Mr. Frank Ayore Ogundezi, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, over persistent threats to his life and that of his family.
Speaking yesterday in Benin City, Mr. Frank Ayore Ogundezi said the petition became necessary in order to forestall any attack on him and members of his family.
In the two page petition, Mr. Ogundezi said, he now lives in fear, following frequent threats to his life and that of his family.
He said his ordeal began when he decided to pursue to a logical conclusion, the cases of all those fingered in the murder of his elder brother, late Fred Imarhuabe Ogundezi.
Mr. Frank Ogundezi said, since he decided to use constitutional means to bring to book, all those involved in the murder, the suspects had decided to end his life.
He alleged that he was accosted at Sapele Road, by the High Court, by some group of persons suspected to have been involved in the murder of his elder brother, warning him to stay off the murder case.
Mr. Ogundezi appealed to the police and other relevant security agencies as well as the state government, to come to his aid.
The Uzebu community chairman vowed not to relent in the fight for justice on the murder of his elder brother.
The Ezomo of Benin Kingdom, Chief Okpomwense Ezomo said, the community could not afford to lose another member through assassination and urged the police not to treat the matter with kid gloves.
The Secretary, Uzebu Community, Mr. Sunday Osaguena said, the community would remain law abiding in spite of frequent provocations.
Mr. Osaguena said, the community was still mourning the death of Fred Ayore Ogundezi whom he described as a godly chairman of the community.
In his contribution, Mr. Alex Olaye said, the threats would further endanger the lives and property of people living in Uzebu.
It will be recalled that the former chairman of Uzebu community, Mr. Fred Imarhiabe Ogundezi was murdered on December 21, 2006 at Ehaekpen Street, Benin City.
